Join Our Community

ICJ Victoria is a member-based volunteer organisation, guided by an Executive Committee. ICJV membership is composed of Judges, Magistrates, Solicitors, Barristers, Legal Academics and law students committed to the implementation of international law and human rights in Victoria.

ICJV output depends on the advice, research, time and expertise of its membership to develop submissions and identify topical issues for comment.

Our membership structure

At ICJ Victoria, there are two types of membership:

  • Supporter — This is ideal for people who would like to support ICJV’s advocacy and initiatives, attend our events, but do not have time to participate in our ongoing advocacy and research projects.

  • Member — This is best suited for people actively seeking to engage with international law and human rights issues in Victoria. You will join a global community of like-minded lawyers. You’ll also get the chance to contribute to ICJV’s work. This includes drafting submissions, providing research assistance, reviewing drafts of advocacy papers on areas of law in which you may be an expert, offering advice and welcoming our visiting guests.

All supporter and member fees are paid on an annual basis. If you have any questions, contact executive@icjvictoria.org.

  • As a supporter, you will receive invitations to ICJV events and other updates on ICJV’s activities. You will also receive a 10% discount at ticketed ICJV events, such as our Rule of Law Oration.

  • As a student supporter, you will receive all the benefits of a regular supporter but at a lower annual fee.

  • As a member, you will receive invitations to ICJV events, updates on our activities and access to the following:

    • Opportunities to participate in advocacy and research, via our bi-monthly international law and human rights (ILHR) working group;

    • A standing invitation to join our bi-monthly Executive Committee meetings, where we discuss our advocacy agenda and hear from guest speakers on topical ILHR issues;

    • Opportunities to publish articles on the ICJV website and blog;

    • Opportunities to support the planning and execution of ICJV initiatives, such as the student ICL moot, ICJV Bar Reader Fellowship and our Young Jurists in International Law (YJIL) program; and

    • Membership rights under the ICJV constitution.

  • As a student member, you will receive all the benefits of a regular member but at a discounted annual fee.

  • This membership category is for legal professionals predominantly working in a non-profit, community legal centre or pro bono capacity.
